Not so bookish: I don't know what to do.

-Warning this has nothing to do with books-
This is me being pissed at CVS.

If you know anything about me then you know I work for CVS. Why then am I pissed at them? Easy, it seems lately like they don't care about their employees. To be honest I adore my store, but I really could care less for the store that my fiance works at (my old store). Reason one: They give him 6 hours a week. Please...PLEASE tell me who can afford to live off 6 hours a week. What's worse is they are doing this shit around Christmas time.  He's been with the store almost 3 years and there are techs who have been there less than a year who get more hours them him. How is this fair?

Then today apparently he was suppose to be at work at 2 and he thought 4 (because that's he's normal schedule) so he gets ready and goes in. He's not there 5 minutes before they pull him to the back and tell him that he's suspended for being late, and his job depends on what the front store district manager says. Guys this manager has nothing to do with pharmacy, and  only comes to our store when the front is doing something wrong. So why then does he get to hold the fate of this job in his hands? It's complete bull. I understand he was late..he didn't look at the schedule right...he's been late...but guess what so has every other person that works at that store. Everyone makes a mistake...everyone looks at the schedule wrong sometimes...There are some of those people who've been late 2 or 3 hours and were their jobs on the line...no! I could over look this if this wasn't the first or second time they have treated him like shit, but it's been numerous times. For instance a month or two back. He called in a few hours a head of time to them telling them he was sick. They got pissy about it, and told him no he had to come in, or he was getting written up. So instead of he getting written up he said fine I'll come in. I'll be there in a few hours. When he got there guess what...they took him to the back and gave him the write up anyways, even though he came to work feeling like crap. Who does this? What makes this worse is the way our pharmacist acted when they told him. He said that she had this grin on her face like that's what you get.

I'm just so fed up with the way he gets treated. he doesn't know what to do? I don't know what to say to him. He tells me he feels like a failure. He wanted this to be a good Christmas since it was our first on our own together. What do I do? How do I tell him it'll be okay.. When honestly I don't know?

  1. This sounds awful. I used to have to deal with CVS as a customer and I HATED the place. I'm sorry you guys have to deal with such a terrible situation around Christmas. The best thing you can do for your BF is let him know you love him, you'll be there for him and what's most important to you is being together at Christmas - not the gifts!

But, I'm sure he'll still want to buy you something nice. So, whenever I'm really short on money and want to earn extra bones for something special, I always looks on Craigslist for odd jobs. Sometimes you can get jobs for a day like for driving someone somewhere (to and from and apt) or doing yard work. I've also seen ads to donate blood or join a study (one day apt earns usually $50-100). I recently joined a survey place that's very reputable called Focus Forward, (search them online) by participating in on line survey's or phone survey's one can make some pretty decent cash for each one (usually $75-100). These are all short term ideas. Oh, and I guess you could always sign up for a Temporary Agency (Temps) usually you can get short term jobs without benefits which will pay more money than the usual job would.

Long term I would suggest: the obvious, finding a new job. That's not always easy, especially in this economy. One strategy is to get him to go online and take a test to pass his CNA and then CNA 2 exams. If one is a CNA two, they are eligible to work almost anywhere an RN can. This opens up lots of opportunities immediately. CNA stands for Certified Nursing Assistant. CNA twos are very much in demand and one can pick up evening shifts and night shifts, too. I offer up this solution because if he really doesn't like this CNA type of work, he could work evenings, nights or weekends and go to community college during the daytime to get the career her really wants. (Or of course if he's already done Com College then go to a University).

  2. Oh, I know. I've told him numerous times that I love him and that honestly having him for Christmas is all I need. it's just seeing him in the state that he was in yesterday really hurt. I just want what's best for him. he's gone through so much to get where is and for him to be treated like nothing just sucks.
